This lustrous deep blue calcite is a new find from Spitzkoppe, Namibia. Spots of dark silver grey pyrite sit on the surface in places creating an unusual combination. A palm size piece that sits well in the hand.
Calcite is a calcium carbonate mineral and has a trigonal lattice system with a hardness of 3. With a perfect rhombohedral cleavage it has a tendency to break off into well formed cubes with parallel sides.
